Barbara Malimali has been named the new Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). FICAC announced that her appointment was made through the Judicial Services Commission and officially signed by the President.
According to section 5(1) of the FICAC Act 2007, the Commissioner is appointed by the President following recommendations from the Judicial Services Commission, which is required to consult with the Attorney-General prior to making its recommendations.
In a related development, FICAC reported that they conducted a raid at the Election Commission yesterday, where they seized documents pertaining to the investigation of Chairperson Barbara Malimali. She is currently facing allegations of abuse of office.
