Barbara Malimali has been appointed as the new Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). FICAC has confirmed that her appointment was made through the Judicial Services Commission and received approval from the President.
According to section 5(1) of the FICAC Act 2007, the President appoints the Commissioner based on recommendations from the Judicial Services Commission, which must first consult with the Attorney-General.
In related news, FICAC has reported that they conducted a raid at the Election Commission the day before, during which documents pertaining to the investigation of Chairperson Barbara Malimali were seized. Malimali is currently facing allegations of abuse of office.
