New FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali Under Investigation for Alleged Abuse of Office

Barbara Malimali has been named the new Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). Her appointment was confirmed by FICAC and comes through the Judicial Services Commission, with final authorization from the President.

According to section 5(1) of the FICAC Act 2007, the Commissioner is appointed by the President upon the recommendation of the Judicial Services Commission, which must consult with the Attorney-General.

Additionally, FICAC reported that a raid was conducted at the Election Commission, during which documents pertaining to the investigation of Chairperson Barbara Malimali were seized. Malimali is currently facing allegations of abuse of office.
