Goundar Shipping Ltd. recently celebrated the arrival of its newest vessel, the MV Captain Inoke, at Suva’s Mua-i-Walu jetty, in a poignant ceremony that honored the memory of Captain Inoke Ratotodro. Captain Ratotodro, who passed away in October 2024, was not only a founder of the shipping company but also a beloved father figure to George Goundar, the company’s founder. During the ceremony, an emotional George Goundar expressed his heartfelt sentiments, stating, “He’ll always be regarded as my dad… He was a great man. He still is. He’s with us for the rest of our lives.”

The MV Captain Inoke is a state-of-the-art double-hulled fast ferry acquired from Korea, designed to enhance the travel experience for Goundar Shipping’s passengers on the Levuka – Natovi – Nabouwalu – Ellington route. Under the command of Sainimere Qutonilaba, a captain who has been with the company since 2011, the ferry not only represents a new chapter for Goundar Shipping but also embodies the legacy of dedication and perseverance established by Captain Ratotodro during his 30 years of exemplary service.

Melaia Ratotodro, Captain Inoke’s eldest daughter, also spoke during the event, conveying her gratitude and pride in her father’s contributions. “We may miss him dearly, but we are grateful for what the company has done to honor him,” she remarked.
