The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is preparing to announce the vacant position of Commissioner of Police shortly. Pio Tikoduadua, the Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, confirmed that the COC is advancing efforts to appoint a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.
“The COC will soon advertise the position. We hope many individuals will apply once the ad is published, enabling us to appoint a substantive commissioner quickly,” stated Mr. Tikoduadua.
This vacancy follows the resignation of Sitiveni Qiliho, who stepped down earlier this month while serving a two-year prison term after being suspended on January 27.
As a result, the COC will move forward in selecting a new candidate, while the role is currently filled by Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew.
The COC functions as an advisory entity that assists the President of Fiji with the appointment of significant public officials, including the Commissioner of Police.
Comprising six members, the COC includes the Prime Minister as chairperson, the Leader of Opposition, and the Attorney-General. Additionally, two members are appointed by the Prime Minister and one by the Opposition Leader.
