New Era Begins: Barbara Malimali Takes the Helm at Fiji’s Anti-Corruption Commission

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has announced the appointment of Barbara Malimali as its new Commissioner. Malimali, who has stepped down from her role as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, expressed her best wishes to the former commission.

Malimali brings considerable experience as a criminal lawyer and has been appointed by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere following a recommendation from the Judicial Services Commission and in consultation with the Office of the Attorney-General. Her three-year term officially commenced yesterday.

FICAC noted that Malimali is the first woman to assume the Commissioner position, which became available after the resignation of former Commissioner Rashmi Aslam in September 2023. Addressing her new role, Malimali affirmed her commitment to fulfilling her responsibilities in accordance with the law and expressed eagerness to embark on her duties as the Commissioner of FICAC.
