New E-Ticketing System: Say Goodbye to Paper Receipts!

The recent implementation of a new electronic ticketing system for buses in Fiji has eliminated the issuance of physical receipts. Vodafone Fiji, the provider of this system, confirmed that both ticketing and receipts will now be stored electronically on passengers’ bus cards, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

Passengers will have access to their last four transactions, which will detail the date and time of travel, the stages traveled, the fare amount paid, and the remaining balance on their cards. Land Transport Authority (LTA) CEO Iramaia Rokosawa emphasized that the electronic system replaces the previous hard-copy receipts as proof of payment, ensuring a smoother and more streamlined process for riders.

Rokosawa indicated that no passengers would incur fines for not having physical receipts during this transition and that staff has been trained to use handheld devices to verify electronic tickets. He encouraged passengers to keep their bus cards accessible for any necessary checks during travel.

This upgrade is part of broader efforts to improve the public transportation system in Fiji. As the government continues to engage with stakeholders like bus operators and Vodafone Fiji, they aim for a seamless transition to enhance user experience. This initiative follows previous complaints addressing the need for better network connectivity and the system’s overall functionality.

In summary, while the transition to the electronic ticketing system marks a significant shift in how fare payments are managed, it also highlights the government’s commitment to advancing technological solutions to improve user experiences in public transportation. With a focused approach on customer service and operational efficiency, there’s hope for an improved, more convenient travel experience for all Fijians.
