New DPP Appointed: Breaking Barriers in Legal History

Nancy Tikoisuva has been appointed as the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). She received her official appointment letter from President Ratu Willame Katonivere yesterday. Tikoisuva acknowledged receiving the letter around 3:30 PM following the departure of John Rabuku from the office on Wednesday.

“The appointment comes at a time of significant changes in the office’s leadership,” Tikoisuva remarked. “Our focus is to maintain the strategic directions already in place, and I am grateful that the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) saw fit to make an internal appointment. I am supported by a capable team.”

Tikoisuva is experienced in leadership roles, having served as acting assistant director for DPP during Rabuku’s tenure. A prominent lawyer, she has worked with Toganivalu Legal law firm, served as an External Academic at the University of the South Pacific (USP), and consulted for the Food Agricultural Organization (FAO).

With over 18 years of experience, Tikoisuva graduated from USP in 2003 and earned her Masters in Law in 2022. “I am the second local female, the third female overall, and the first iTaukei female to hold this role,” she noted.

Her message to her female colleagues is, “Don’t give up, don’t be discouraged by bureaucracy, let your work speak for itself.”
