Students at Ratu Kadavulevu School are set to return to school this week with the benefit of newly constructed dormitories that were inaugurated during the recent Lodoni Day celebration.
During this significant occasion, alumni, teachers, students, and parents not only celebrated the school’s centennial but also witnessed the unveiling of the new facilities. The newly built dormitory blocks were financed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) and will accommodate students from Cakau and Ma’afu Houses, while Degei House dormitory, funded by the government, will serve the Degei students.
Education Minister Aseri Radrodro officiated the commissioning of the three dormitory blocks and expressed gratitude for the successful completion, attributing it to the collaborative efforts of various individuals and organizations. He thanked the LDS Church for its generous financial contribution of $1.11 million towards the project.
Minister Radrodro emphasized that education is a key priority for the Coalition Government, which aims to invest in children through quality education. He highlighted the importance of providing essential resources such as teachers, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and recreational facilities to ensure an inclusive educational environment.
Elder Taniela Wakolo, a representative of the LDS Church and an alumnus of Ratu Kadavulevu School, encouraged students to strive for excellence and remember the legacy of those who paved the way for them. He urged them to engage actively in their education, whether in academic pursuits or vocational training, and to aspire to be lifelong learners.
Additionally, the LDS Church elders present at the event donated sports equipment to enhance the school’s athletic programs during the centennial celebration.
