“New Direct Flight: A Game Changer for Fiji-India Relations!”

A new direct flight connecting Fiji and India is seen as crucial due to the cultural ties between the two nations. In an exclusive interview, Fijian High Commissioner to India, His Excellency Jagnath Sami, highlighted the significance of this air link, which is expected to strengthen collaboration in trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges.

With a significant part of Fiji’s population having Indian ancestry, the direct route will facilitate easier travel for Indo-Fijians, helping to enhance personal relationships and cultural connections. Sami stated, “Direct flight is very important. This will help in promoting tourism. We need to lift our marketing here in India as well.”

The High Commissioner expressed hope that the new flight would pave the way for increased direct investments from India into Fiji, particularly in technology, agriculture, and renewable energy sectors. He added, “I think more tourists from India will go to Fiji if we establish this.”

Furthermore, Sami mentioned ongoing discussions with filmmakers and tour groups to promote Fiji’s beauty to the world. Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad confirmed that negotiations to establish the air route with India are progressing well.

“Everything is on the table. The relationship is developing, and we expect it to grow significantly in the future,” stated Professor Prasad. He also noted that Prime Minister has reiterated the importance of the Fiji-India relationship during meetings, particularly when the Indian President visited Fiji two months ago, emphasizing the strengthening ties over the past 18 months of their government.
