Congratulations to Mr. Rusiate Tudravu on his appointment as the new Commissioner of Police (COMPOL). However, it is important for the public to understand that he will not be able to resolve all issues immediately. The challenges facing the Police Force and the slow criminal justice system are the result of years of accumulated difficulties stemming from ineffective government performance. Significant efforts over time will be required before any noticeable changes may occur.
Given the considerable workload ahead for the new COMPOL, it might have been more strategic for the Constitutional Officers Commission to keep Mr. Juki Fong Chew in his role as Acting Commissioner, while also appointing Mr. Tudravu as a second commissioner to effectively tackle the existing backlog. With multiple Deputy Prime Ministers in the government, having two Police Commissioners could be a viable solution and might allow for a more effective approach to policing.
Combining the strengths of both Mr. Tudravu and Mr. Chew could offer valuable enhancements to the decision-making process within the Police Force.
This transition represents an opportunity for growth and improvement within the police and justice systems, and with the right support and collaboration, meaningful advancements may be on the horizon.
