New Classrooms Spark Hope for Students in Namuka District

Students at Namuka District School in Macuata are experiencing a renewed sense of hope with the recent completion of three new classrooms, funded by the Japanese government. The project, which cost $292,808, aims to improve educational conditions in Namuka by replacing old and deteriorating school facilities.

Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Michii Rokuichiro, visited the school and the local community to officially hand over the Grants of Grassroots Programme (GGP), consisting of three classroom blocks. During his visit, Mr. Rokuichiro emphasized the importance of education as a vital tool for societal improvement and urged students to take responsibility for the care of the new classrooms.

He expressed that the new facilities should inspire students to fully engage in their academic pursuits. Tevita Masiwini, the head of the school, stated that the new classrooms create a more conducive learning environment.

Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu, the Minister for Health and Medical Services, expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for their support in enhancing education. Mr. Masiwini noted that the feelings of being left behind in infrastructure compared to urban schools would now be alleviated. He highlighted that the new furniture, including chairs and tables, would motivate students in their studies and contribute to reversing the decline in school enrollment observed in recent years.
