New Classrooms Spark Hope for Namuka District Students

A new era of optimism has begun for students at Namuka District School in Macuata with the recent handover of three new classrooms provided by the Japanese government.

The $292,808 project, funded by Japan, is designed to improve educational conditions in Namuka by replacing the old and deteriorating school facilities.

Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Michii Rokuichiro, visited the school and the local community yesterday to officially hand over the Grants of Grassroots Programme (GGP), which includes three classroom blocks.

During his visit, Mr. Rokuichiro emphasized the importance of education as a powerful tool for societal advancement and encouraged students to take responsibility for the upkeep of the new buildings. He urged them to use this new classroom space to enhance their academic experiences.

Tevita Masiwini, the head of the school, expressed that the new facilities would create a better learning environment for the students.

Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu, the Minister for Health and Medical Services, thanked the Japanese government for their support in enhancing education.

Masiwini also noted that students who felt disadvantaged in terms of infrastructure compared to urban areas would now have better opportunities. He stated that new chairs and tables would further motivate students to excel in their studies, and he hopes that the new classroom blocks will help reverse the decline in school enrollment seen in recent years.
