New Classrooms Spark Hope for Namuka District Students

Students at Namuka District School in Macuata are set to benefit from improved educational facilities following the completion of three new classrooms funded by the Japanese government. The project, which cost $292,808, aims to enhance the learning environment by replacing outdated school buildings.

Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Michii Rokuichiro, visited the school to officially hand over the classroom blocks, which are part of the Grants of Grassroots Programme (GGP). During his visit, he emphasized the importance of education as a tool for societal advancement and encouraged students to take responsibility for the upkeep of their new facilities.

Rokuichiro remarked, “This classroom can be used to motivate you (students) to make the most of your academic journey.”

Tevita Masiwini, the school’s head, expressed optimism that the new classroom block would provide a better learning atmosphere for students. The Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu, also acknowledged the support from the Japanese government, highlighting its significance for education in the region.

Masiwini mentioned that the introduction of new furniture, such as chairs and tables, would foster motivation among students, addressing previous concerns about disparities in infrastructure compared to urban schools. He believes the new classrooms could help revive declining school enrollment rates in recent years.
