A newly opened classroom block at Namuka-i-cake Primary, funded by the Government and the Japanese Embassy, is missing blackboards. A member of the school’s committee, who requested anonymity, revealed that the budget for the $290,000 project was allocated solely for the construction of the new classrooms and the purchase of desks and chairs.
“The three new classrooms don’t have blackboards,” the committee member stated. He expressed uncertainty regarding whether a quotation for blackboards was included in the project’s budget. Despite this shortfall, he conveyed gratitude towards the Japanese Government for their timely support, noting that this was their third attempt to secure assistance, which was ultimately approved.
Efforts to obtain comments from the school’s head have been unsuccessful. In a recent address, Japanese Ambassador Rokuichiro Michii specified that the overall cost for the project was $290,808, stating that it was funded through a grassroots program. Mr. Rokuichiro emphasized that the new classroom block aims to provide students with a spacious and comfortable learning environment.
