Students at Namuka District School in Macuata are entering a new chapter of hope with the recent inauguration of three new classrooms funded by the Japanese government. The $292,808 project aims to improve educational facilities in Namuka by replacing old and worn-out buildings.
During a visit to the school and community, Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Michii Rokuichiro, officially handed over the new 3×1 classroom blocks as part of the Grants of Grassroots Programme (GGP). He emphasized the importance of education as a powerful tool for societal development and encouraged students to cherish and maintain their new learning environment.
The school head, Tevita Masiwini, expressed his gratitude, stating that the new infrastructure would create an encouraging learning atmosphere for the students. He highlighted that with the availability of new furniture, students would feel more inspired to engage in their academic pursuits.
Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu, the Minister for Health and Medical Services, also conveyed appreciation to the Japanese government for its commitment to enhancing education. Misiwini added that the feelings of inferiority regarding infrastructure compared to urban students would now be alleviated, potentially reversing the decline in school enrollment seen in recent years.
