New Classrooms, New Beginnings: Japanese Support Transforms Learning in Namuka

Students at Namuka District School in Macuata are set to benefit from improved learning conditions following the donation of three new classrooms by the Japanese government. The project, which cost $292,808, aims to enhance educational facilities in the area, replacing old and deteriorating buildings.

Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Michii Rokuichiro, visited the school and its community to officially hand over the classroom blocks funded through the Grants of Grassroots Programme (GGP). During his visit, he emphasized the importance of education as a vital tool for societal advancement and encouraged students to take responsibility for their new environment.

“The new classrooms should inspire you to make the most of your academic journey,” Mr. Rokuichiro remarked.

Tevita Masiwini, the head of the school, expressed optimism about how the new facilities would promote a better learning environment. Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu, Minister for Health and Medical Services, conveyed his gratitude to the Japanese government for their commitment to educational development.

Masiwini noted that the school’s students no longer feel a sense of disadvantage in terms of infrastructure compared to urban schools. He highlighted that the provision of new chairs and tables would motivate students to engage more actively in their studies, and he hopes that the new classrooms will also help reverse the decline in student enrollment seen in recent years.
