Students at Namuka District School in Macuata are experiencing a renewed sense of hope with the recent inauguration of three new classrooms, funded by the Japanese government. This initiative, valued at $292,808, aims to enhance the educational landscape in Namuka by replacing the outdated and crumbling school facilities.
Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Michii Rokuichiro, visited the school and the community to officially hand over the new classroom blocks under the Grants of Grassroots Programme (GGP). During his visit, he emphasized the importance of education as a vital tool for progress and urged the students to take responsibility for their new learning environment.
“This classroom can be used to motivate you (students) to make the most of your academic journey,” Mr. Rokuichiro remarked, highlighting the role of a positive learning space in driving academic performance.
Tevita Masiwini, the head of the school, expressed that the new infrastructure would foster a better learning environment for the students. He noted that the new classrooms and the addition of desks and chairs would enhance motivation among students in their studies.
Health and Medical Services Minister, Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu, acknowledged the support from the Japanese government and expressed gratitude for their commitment to education. Mr. Masiwini also mentioned that the new facilities would address concerns about infrastructure disparities between rural and urban schools, potentially leading to a decrease in the school roll that had been declining in recent years.
