New Classrooms Ignite Hope for Namuka District Students

Students of Namuka District School in Macuata are poised for a brighter future with the recent completion of three new classrooms funded by the Japanese government. The project, which cost $292,808, aims to improve educational facilities in Namuka by replacing old and deteriorating school buildings.

Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Michii Rokuichiro, visited Namuka to officially hand over the new classroom blocks, which were part of the Grants of Grassroots Programme (GGP). During his visit, Rokuichiro emphasized the importance of education as a vital tool for societal enhancement and encouraged students to take care of the new facilities. He expressed hope that the classrooms would inspire students to excel in their academic pursuits.

Tevita Masiwini, the head of the school, noted that the new block would provide a more conducive learning environment, benefiting the students significantly. Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu, the Minister for Health and Medical Services, expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for its support in education during the hand-over ceremony.

Masiwini reflected on the previous feelings of inadequacy among students regarding infrastructure compared to their urban peers, stating that the arrival of new chairs and tables would boost motivation and engagement in their studies. He also mentioned that the new classrooms could help reverse the decline in school enrollment experienced in recent years.
