In a significant development for education in the Tagaqe District, a new classroom block has been inaugurated at the Tagaqe District School, accommodating the growing number of students in the area. Over the years, the school has faced challenges as enrollment surged without corresponding infrastructure improvements. However, the recent initiative marks a positive step towards addressing this need.
Supported by the Japanese Government and facilitated by the Fijian Ministry of Education along with the local Korolevu-i-Wai Yaubula Committee, the construction of the classroom block cost a total of $206,000. The funding breakdown reveals that the Japanese Government contributed $187,000, with the Ministry of Education providing $6,000 and the local school committee adding $13,000. This collaborative effort underscores the importance of community and international partnerships in improving educational infrastructure.
The newly constructed building features three spacious classrooms equipped with desks and chairs, available to host 258 students. This facility replaces an old timber classroom that had been lost in the mid-1980s, illustrating a long-awaited improvement to the school’s resources. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro, during the opening ceremony, expressed gratitude towards the Japanese Government and commended the collective efforts of the community and school management dedicated to enhancing education for children in Tagaqe.
Minister Radrodro highlighted the government’s ongoing commitment to education, showcasing programs such as the Free Education Grant, transport assistance, and financial support for families sending children back to school. He encouraged the local community to take care of the new facilities and continue fostering educational opportunities.
This new classroom block represents not just a physical enhancement of educational facilities, but a commitment to nurturing a positive environment for learning. It is a hopeful step forward for the Tagaqe District, promising to enrich the educational experiences of the children and aid in their overall development. Such international cooperation is crucial for ensuring that students have the resources they need to thrive academically, paving the way for a brighter future.
