A new classroom block has been inaugurated at Tagaqe District School, providing enhanced learning facilities for 258 students in the district. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro officially opened the block, which was constructed in time for the new academic year, marking a significant investment in local education.
The project received funding from the Government of Japan through its Grassroots Assistance Program, with a total cost of $206,000, contributed by the Japanese Government, the Fiji Government, and the school’s community. This new facility replaces an old timber classroom that was lost in a disaster during the mid-1980s, illustrating the gradual improvement of educational infrastructure in the region.
Minister Radrodro expressed gratitude for the support of the Japanese Government and acknowledged the combined efforts of the school management and local community that led to the project’s fruition. “This initiative is not just about brick and mortar; it’s about providing a nurturing environment for our children,” he stated, urging everyone to take care of the new facilities.
Furthermore, Mr. Radrodro emphasized the Fiji Government’s ongoing commitment to educational support through various initiatives such as the Free Education Grant, Transport Assistance, and the Back-to-School support program. He encouraged the community to continue investing in the education of their children, underlining that such efforts are crucial for their development and future success.
This development reflects a positive step towards improving educational opportunities for children in Tagaqe District. The collaboration between the Fijian and Japanese governments demonstrates the impact of international partnerships in enhancing local education, paving the way for a brighter future for the students.
