Pita Rabo, a former player with the Suva football team, has been appointed as the co-coach of Suva Football Club, teaming up with ex-Tailevu Naitasiri goalkeeper Brian Singh. They take over from Babs Khan, who has stepped down from his coaching position.
Rabo expressed his appreciation for the opportunity, saying, “I thank god and everyone who has supported me throughout my soccer career. Now I can enjoy coaching.” His prior experience on the coaching panel during Intiaz Khan’s presidency will aid in his transition into this new role.
Rabo’s primary objective is to prepare the team for their next match against Nadroga in the Extra Premier League, particularly after a recent 1-1 draw with Tavua that heightened the team’s need to improve their performance. The match is scheduled for this Sunday at 3 PM at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
Fans can also anticipate other exciting matches this weekend, including Tavua vs. Lautoka, Navua vs. Labasa, and Nadi vs. Nasinu, all taking place on Sunday.
Rabo’s appointment marks a significant trend in Fijian football, where former players are increasingly stepping into coaching roles. This trend underscores the sport’s dedication to cultivating local talent and empowering knowledgeable leaders within the community. As Suva prepares for this pivotal match, there is optimism for a successful season ahead, filled with memorable experiences for both players and fans.
