The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is preparing to announce the vacancy for the position of Commissioner of Police in Fiji soon. Pio Tikoduadua, the Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, stated that the COC is making progress in its search for a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.
“The COC is going to advertise the position soon. Hopefully, people will apply when the advertisement goes up, and we can have a substantive commissioner in no time,” Mr. Tikoduadua remarked.
The vacancy was created after Sitiveni Qiliho, who was suspended on January 27, resigned this month while serving a two-year prison term. This development has allowed the COC to move forward with the search for a new appointee, while the role is currently filled by Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew.
The COC acts as an advisory body, offering guidance to the President of Fiji regarding appointments for key public roles, including that of the Commissioner of Police. The commission is composed of six members, including the Prime Minister as chairperson, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Attorney-General. Two additional members are chosen by the Prime Minister, and one member is selected by the Opposition Leader.
