Netball Fiji President RubyAnn Sorovaki emphasized the necessity of enhancing local netball competitions this year. In her remarks regarding areas for improvement within the sport, she highlighted that strengthening these tournaments is crucial for forming a broader training squad for national teams.

Sorovaki stated, “We need to intensify our competitions to allow for selection of players into the high-performance teams.” She mentioned the importance of creating clear pathways from club level to national competition. By ensuring high-quality games are hosted and played, Netball Fiji aims to improve player selection at all levels.

Additionally, Sorovaki noted that grassroots development is essential, and the federation will collaborate closely with stakeholders. “Our focus remains on assisting our districts in their efforts to run games and build capacity for members,” she added.

In a related announcement, the Fiji Pearls extended squad will regroup for fitness testing today at the HPU Gym in Laucala at 8:30 AM. The extended squad comprises 56 players and will be mentored by interim head coach Jioweli Vakamoce.

This proactive approach by Netball Fiji signifies a commitment to developing talent and fostering competitive play, which ultimately bodes well for the future of netball in the country. By focusing on local competitions and nurturing players from the ground up, there is great potential for emerging talents to shine on national and international stages.

In summary, the emphasis on improving local competitions and supporting grassroots development will fortify Fiji’s netball structure, setting the stage for future success in the sport.
