Netball Fiji President RubyAnn Sorovaki has emphasized the importance of enhancing local netball competitions this year. Sorovaki highlighted that improving the quality and frequency of tournaments will be crucial in forming a more robust training squad for the national teams.
She explained that by intensifying competitions, the selection process for high-performance teams can be better facilitated. “We need to ensure that clear pathways exist from club competitions to national levels,” Sorovaki stated, stressing the need for quality games to widen the selection pool for players across all levels of the sport.
Grassroots development remains a top priority, and the federation plans to work closely with stakeholders to support districts in organizing events and building capacity among members.
In related news, the Fiji Pearls’ extended squad is set to regroup for fitness testing today at the HPU Gym in Laucala, starting at 8:30 AM. The squad comprises 56 players who will receive guidance from interim head coach Jioweli Vakamoce.
This renewed focus on local competitions signifies a hopeful future for netball in Fiji, as it aims to nurture talent from grassroots upwards and create a stronger framework for athletes striving to represent their country on the international stage.
The ongoing commitment to building the sport from the ground up is an encouraging step that could yield positive outcomes for the national teams and foster a stronger netball community in Fiji.
