The Navua community is preparing for a historic occasion as it hosts its inaugural Amateur Boxing competition at Vashist Muni Memorial Primary School, organized by the newly-formed Kwaca Na Vatu Boxing Club.
With 25 bouts lined up, local boxers will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and talent, generating considerable excitement ahead of the event. Cam Todd, head coach of Fiji Amateur Boxing, is eager about the sport’s growth in Navua, driven by a notable interest from the youth following a boxing clinic held earlier this year.
Todd shared, “The competition not only allows boxers to demonstrate their capabilities but also serves as a fundraiser for our new club. We are anticipating between 25 to 35 fights, and it’s thrilling because this is the first time Navua is hosting an Amateur Boxing competition.”
He is optimistic about a good turnout and looks forward to witnessing the talent of the young participants. “This Amateur Boxing competition marks a significant milestone for the sport. We aim to extend our reach to other communities across the country to provide more exposure and further develop our boxers.”
The event will feature both male and female boxers across various age categories, enhancing its diversity and excitement. Additionally, contestants who participated in the recent Oceania games will also be part of the competition, promising a display of skill and dedication from all involved.
Todd is encouraging the Navua community to come out and support their local club as well as the resurgence of Amateur Boxing in Fiji.
