Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has recognized the difficulties currently facing the nation, stating, “As natives, we are going through a period of challenges and change.”

While presiding over the annual meeting for the province of Tailevu, Rabuka expressed gratitude for the support the province has extended to the Coalition Government. The two-day meeting is taking place in Vuci, Tokatoka, within Tailevu.

Rabuka pointed out significant developments in the region, such as enhancements to the wharf facilities in Waidalice and Wainawi, as well as improvements to the Namau and Viria water supply systems, which are expected to soon benefit various areas in Tailevu.

He also shared his ambitious vision for the province, concentrating on sectors like agriculture, fisheries, health, youth development, poverty alleviation, and efforts to combat illegal drug cultivation.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of traditional leadership roles within communities, highlighting their influence in guiding religious and governmental practices. He noted that approximately 483 traditional titles (55 percent) have been filled, leaving 396 titles (45 percent) vacant in Tailevu. He stressed the necessity for the Council to address these vacant positions.

On the topic of societal challenges, the Prime Minister addressed issues related to climate change, cyclone readiness, cultural preservation, and the increasing rates of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), HIV, and violence against women and children.

Rabuka concluded by underscoring the importance of collaborative planning at village, district, and provincial levels to ensure ongoing progress and development in Tailevu.
