“National Climate Change Finance Strategy Unveils Priority Projects, Secures $US5.7mn Funding for Adaptation Measures”

Climate change mitigation specialist, Ranjila Singh, has announced that priority projects outlined by the National Climate Change Finance Strategy are aligned with the National Development Plan. The announcement came during her panel discussion at the Situation Analysis Workshop on Forest Landscape Restoration on Tuesday.

According to Singh, the projects primarily concern the adaptation and mitigation sectors of climate issues. She explained that the funding they receive is mostly focused in line with the finance strategy. Some project pipelines have been presented to the National Climate Change Committee and will be prioritised based on the government’s needs and priorities before being implemented.

Singh also revealed that the division has secured $5.7 million US dollars (approximately $12.9 million Fijian dollars) from the adaptation fund. This fund will benefit 16 communities who have asked for nature-based sea walls. In addition to this, she added that they work closely with various agencies and ministries, depending on the available funding, to support necessary projects.
