Nasinu Council Reveals Plans for Retirement Home and Childcare Facility

The Nasinu Town Council is planning to establish a retirement home for the elderly and a modern childcare facility for single mothers. Council chairman Felix Magnus stated that funds raised during the upcoming 2024 Nasinu Festival will contribute to these projects.

Magnus highlighted that the council recognized the necessity for a retirement home and has already acquired land for the initiative. “The council decided to create the first retirement home in Nasinu to care for our senior citizens who are unable to be supported by their families,” he explained.

The council intends to consult with the Ministry of Lands to secure the necessary approvals before engaging with stakeholders. Currently, the Housing Assistance and Relief Trust (HART) is providing space for the Old People’s Home in Nasinu. Magnus admitted shortcomings in their responsibilities toward supporting the elderly home and mentioned that part of the festival funds would also be allocated for renovations and essential equipment like wheelchairs, proper beds, and lighting.

Addressing the growing number of single mothers in Nasinu, he added that the childcare facility aims to provide care for children who are usually left unattended while their mothers work. “When they are at work, who looks after their kids at home? By building this facility, their children can be cared for while they are employed,” he noted.

Magnus reaffirmed the council’s dedication to continuing initiatives aimed at reducing poverty within the community.
