The Vashist Muni Memorial School was buzzing with excitement on Thursday as it hosted the Namosi Athletics Association Zone event. This two-day competition showcased the athletic prowess of young competitors who are vying for a spot in the upcoming National Primary Athletics Competition scheduled for November 27-28.
Manoa Puamau, the association president, expressed his enthusiasm for the increased participation this year, noting that five schools and around 300 athletes joined the event, a significant rise from the three schools and about 200 athletes who participated in 2023. Puamau highlighted the positive trend, acknowledging that the number of participating schools has grown, reflecting a revitalized interest in athletics within the community.
This event represents more than just competition; it marks a resurgence of the sport in Namosi, which had not been active for a decade until it was reintroduced last year.
In summary, this year’s Namosi Athletics Association Zone event is a testament to the growing enthusiasm for athletics among young athletes in the region, setting a hopeful tone for future involvement and success in sports.
The renewed interest in athletics and the increased participation can inspire more youth in the community, promoting not only athletic development but also encouraging teamwork, discipline, and a healthy lifestyle among the younger generation.
