Bright smiles and cheerful shouts filled the grounds of Vashist Muni Memorial School on Thursday as the Namosi Athletics Association’s Zone took off. This two-day event showcased a wealth of athletic talent, with young competitors vying for a chance to represent Namosi at the upcoming National Primary Athletics Competition scheduled for November 27-28.
Manoa Puamau, the association president, expressed his enthusiasm over the significant increase in participation this year. Five schools, totaling around 300 athletes, are competing, a notable rise from the previous year’s three schools and about 200 athletes. “Only five schools are participating, an increase of two schools from last year when three schools represented Namosi in Lautoka,” he noted.
This event marks a significant moment for many, serving as a reintroduction to athletics for Namosi, which returned to the sport last year after a long 10-year absence.
The increase in participation and renewed enthusiasm for athletics in Namosi represents a positive step forward for the community, highlighting the potential for young talent to thrive. It is a hopeful indication that the spirit of athletics is being embraced anew, fostering camaraderie and a passion for sports among the youth.
With the National Primary Athletics Competition on the horizon, this event could serve as a launching pad for future athletes from Namosi, encouraging them to chase their dreams and excel in their athletic pursuits.
