Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced plans to enhance the Namoli seawall in Lautoka to better protect the local community from the impacts of sea-level rise. During his visit to Namoli village on Saturday, he received updates on the seawall project.
Mr. Rabuka noted that the existing 440-meter seawall is increasingly struggling to effectively shield the coastline from erosion, particularly during high tide when seawater infiltrates the village. This escalating issue has had significant consequences for the residents of Namoli over the years.
He expressed gratitude towards the Divisional Engineer Western for providing valuable insights into the structural challenges the seawall faces.
This initiative represents a proactive approach by the government to address environmental challenges and ensure the safety and sustainability of coastal communities in Fiji. By investing in infrastructure improvements like the Namoli seawall, the government demonstrates its commitment to protecting vulnerable areas from the effects of climate change.
In summary, the upgrade of the Namoli seawall highlights the importance of community resilience in the face of environmental challenges and showcases leadership in anticipating and addressing potential threats to public safety.
