The inaugural Namaka Volleyball Tournament is set to happen at Namaka Public School on January 17-18, promising to be an exciting event for volleyball fans in Fiji.
Organizer Biu Tadranu shared that this tournament serves as a prelude to the Fiji Volleyball Federation’s National Club Championships, offering a competitive environment for teams across the Western Division and beyond.
The two-day event will feature robust matches, with proper three and four set formats. An impressive lineup of around 50 teams is anticipated, including 24 men’s teams, 10 women’s teams, and 16 mixed teams. To accommodate the large number of participants, six courts will be available at the school, which boasts excellent facilities. In the event of rain, the venue’s indoor facilities provide a rare backup option for volleyball events.
The tournament also features a prize pool, with $2,000 allocated for the men’s winners, and $1,000 each for the champions in the women’s and mixed categories. Registration fees are set at $300 for men’s teams, $200 for women’s teams, and $250 for mixed teams.
Tadranu emphasized that the primary goal of the tournament is to create a positive platform for youth, steering them towards productive activities, rather than engaging in negative behaviors. This initiative is not just about volleyball; it aims to bolster community involvement and youth development.
With the tournament scheduled just a week prior to the National Club Championships, it provides an excellent opportunity for teams to fine-tune their skills and prepare for higher competition. The Fiji Volleyball Federation has officially endorsed the event, underlining its importance for clubs gearing up for the national stage.
This tournament holds the promise of fostering a sense of community, encouraging healthy competition, and serving as a stepping stone for young athletes in Fiji to pursue their passion for volleyball.
