The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has unveiled new traffic flow strategies for Nadi Town, set to be trialed starting December 8, 2024. Prior to this, from November 23 to December 8, FRA’s contractor will carry out demolition and reconstruction work on existing structures in the Nadi Town area.
FRA Executive Chairman Atunaisa Nayago shared that the trial period for the new layout will run from December 8, 2024, to March 8, 2025. During this time, all traffic signals in the town will be temporarily deactivated.
The proposed redesign includes:
– **Queens Road (Main Street):** This will switch to a two-way single lane traffic flow.
– **Andrews Road and Raniga Street:** Both will also operate as single lane two-way traffic.
– **Naitavo Lane:** This lane’s traffic direction will be reversed to enhance flow, resulting in a single lane one-way traffic system.
– **Sahu Khan Lane, Clay Street, and Market Lane:** These streets will continue to function as single lane one-way roads.
– **Baker Lane and Vunavau Lane:** The direction of travel on these lanes will be reversed to improve traffic movement.
– Heavy vehicles will be restricted from accessing the main street of Nadi Town but can utilize Andrews Street, Raniga Street, and Ratu Naevo Road for access.
This proactive step by the FRA aims to alleviate congestion and improve overall traffic management in Nadi town. The trial period will provide valuable feedback on the effectiveness of these changes, highlighting the FRA’s commitment to optimizing urban mobility while also enhancing the safety and convenience for all road users.
In summary, the traffic flow redesign in Nadi Town represents an important initiative that could lead to smoother operations within the area, bringing potential long-term benefits to both local residents and visitors.
