Nadi Football Association Aims for Victory: $17,000 Needed!

The Nadi Football Association is seeking approximately $17,000 to prepare their team for the upcoming 2024 FMF Inter-District Championship, taking place next week at Churchill Park in Lautoka. This announcement was made by board member Lawrence Kumar during a fundraising event held at Sylvia Hall in Malolo, Nadi, where a large crowd showed their support.

“The event was a huge success, drawing significant numbers of fans,” Kumar stated. “We need $17,000 for our campaign and are looking for more sponsors to help us break the 22-year winless streak at the IDC.”

Kumar noted the team’s solid performance in the recent B.O.G tournament, where they reached the final but fell short. However, he expressed optimism, stating that the team’s morale is high, with a strong focus on winning the championship in the upcoming tournament.

Nadi FA president Mohin Rafiq highlighted the recent addition of former Fiji Under-20 captain Abdulla Aiyaz to the squad. Aiyaz, who is based in Sydney, is expected to collaborate with experienced striker Ali Naseri, whose travel arrangements are currently being finalized.

“We have Abdulla Aiyaz from Sydney, and Ali Naseri’s travel documents are being sorted out. I am thankful for the arrival of head coach Raj Dayal, who is integrating well with the team. We have moved from one training session to two this week,” Rafiq explained.

On Sunday, the Green Machine played a friendly match against Navua, ending in a 1-1 draw at Prince Charles Park in Nadi. “It was a free event for all attendees, and it provided a great opportunity for our fans to come out and show their support for the team,” Rafiq added.

In other news, ticket prices for the IDC have been set to cater to fans of all ages. Grandstand tickets are available for $30 for adults and $15 for children under 10. Pavilion B tickets are priced at $20 for adults and $10 for children under 10. Fans in the Drua stands will pay $15 for adults and $8 for children under 10, while embankment tickets are offered at $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10.
