Nadi FA’s $17K Quest to Break 22-Year IDC Jinx

The Nadi Football Association is seeking approximately $17,000 to prepare their team for the 2024 FMF Inter-District Championship, which will take place next week at Churchill Park in Lautoka. This information was shared by Lawrence Kumar, an executive with the Nadi FA board of control, during a fundraiser held at Sylvia Hall in Malolo, Nadi, where a large number of fans attended.

Kumar expressed the success of the event, highlighting the significant turnout. He stated, “The association requires $17,000 for the campaign and we need more sponsors to come on board as we aim to break the 22-year winless streak at the IDC.” He added that although the team had a strong performance at the recent B.O.G. tournament, they fell short in the final match. However, team morale remains high, and they are focused on winning the upcoming tournament.

Nadi FA president Mohin Rafiq announced that former Fiji Under-20 captain Abdulla Aiyaz has integrated well into the team after joining last week. Aiyaz, who is based in Sydney, is expected to pair with striker Ali Naseri, whose travel documents are currently being processed. Rafiq noted, “We have Abdulla Aiyaz from Sydney, and we’re in the process of finalizing Ali Naseri’s travel arrangements. I’m also thankful for head coach Raj Dayal, who is blending well with the team. We started with one training session and have moved to two this week.”

In a recent friendly match, the Green Machine drew 1-1 with Navua at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, providing fans with a free opportunity to support the team.

In ticketing news, the prices for the IDC have been set to be accessible for fans of all ages. Grandstand tickets will cost $30 for adults and $15 for children under 10. Pavilion B tickets are priced at $20 for adults and $10 for children under 10. Fans seated in the Drua stands will pay $15 for adults and $8 for children under 10, while tickets for the embankment will be $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10.
