The Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) has expressed its commitment to collaborate with the Fiji Police to enhance safety in Nadi. In response to recent comments by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka about improving security measures, NCCI president Dr. Ram Raju emphasized the importance of taking swift action following recent events that have raised concerns.

Dr. Raju indicated that discussions with senior officers from the Nadi and Namaka Police Stations are ongoing, highlighting that recent incidents should prompt stronger preventive measures. He pointed out that the recent case involving foreign airline staff should be considered an isolated incident, as there have been no similar occurrences in the past.

“The goal is to ensure that such incidents do not recur, as they can harm Fiji’s reputation, particularly Nadi, which is a key tourism destination in the South Pacific,” Dr. Raju stated. He also mentioned that both NCCI members and stakeholders plan to meet with police officials soon to address these security challenges.

During a recent conversation with the officer-in-charge of Nadi, Dr. Raju learned that the police force is currently facing severe manpower shortages and has limited resources, with only two vehicles available at the Nadi Police Station. He called on the government to provide adequate staffing and resources to the police, emphasizing that Nadi’s contributions to national development merit improved public safety measures.

In summary, NCCI is proactively seeking to address security concerns in Nadi, ensuring that the area remains safe for both residents and visitors. The emphasis on cooperation between the NCCI and the police reflects a community-spirited approach to tackling safety issues, representing hope for improved security measures in the future.
