Nadi Chamber of Commerce Elects New Leadership Amid Calls for Change

Members of the Nadi Chamber of Commerce & Industry have elected Lawrence Kumar as their new president following a significant vote that saw Dr. Ram Raju ousted after 17 years in leadership. Nearly 100 members participated in the vote of no confidence, which highlights a pivotal moment for the organization as it seeks to address long-standing concerns regarding leadership effectiveness and governance.

The elections did not stop with Kumar’s appointment; Kishore Kumar and Vijendra Pillay were also voted in as vice presidents. Shalendra Prasad has taken on the role of secretary, while Vinay Sharma steps in as treasurer. Additionally, the newly formed board comprises several other members, indicating a shift towards a more diversified and potentially dynamic governance structure.

This change in leadership carries with it an opportunity for the NCCI to rejuvenate its approach and to instill a sense of accountability and transparency that has been lacking in past administrations. The newly elected leaders can foster new ideas and initiatives that not only benefit the chamber’s members but also the business community in Nadi at large.

The environment within the NCCI mirrors broader trends in Fiji, where calls for accountability and fresh leadership are becoming increasingly prominent. As the new administration steps up, members and stakeholders alike are hopeful for a more responsible and engaged leadership ready to tackle the challenges ahead and explore innovative solutions.
