The much-anticipated opening of the COMO Laucala Island hangar at Nadi International Airport took place yesterday in a private event, leaving many in the industry curious about its significance. Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica confirmed that the launch was not open to the public and that only representatives from the Government’s Information arm were present.
Kamikamica commented that this launch marks a positive shift for the business environment. The multi-million dollar project took five years to complete and faced several challenges, including multiple Stop Order notices during the previous Bainimarama administration.
He mentioned that the project was halted by the former government until Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka gave it the green light to proceed. Laucala Island, renowned as a luxury destination for affluent travelers, contributes $3 million in foreign exchange to the Fijian economy each month. Additionally, COMO Laucala Island boasts a private lounge at the Nadi International Airport, enhancing its appeal to high-end visitors.
