The much-anticipated launch of the COMO Laucala Island hangar at Nadi International Airport took place quietly yesterday, shrouded in mystery with a private event held behind closed doors. The soft launch followed previous comments from industry insiders expressing the need for a ‘miracle’ to kickstart the hangar’s opening.
Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica confirmed that the occasion was exclusive, allowing only representatives from the Government’s Information department to attend. He emphasized that the launch signified a positive shift for the business environment.
The development of this multi-million dollar project spanned five years and encountered numerous challenges, including several Stop Order notices during the Bainimarama administration. Minister Kamikamica highlighted that the project had been halted by the former government until it received approval to move forward under Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.
Laucala Island is known as a favored destination for affluent travelers worldwide, contributing approximately $3 million in foreign exchange to Fiji each month. COMO Laucala Island, one of the largest private resorts globally, boasts a private lounge at Nadi International Airport.
