Mystery Surrounds Private Launch of COMO Laucala Island Hangar

The much-anticipated launch of the COMO Laucala Island hangar at Nadi International Airport took place yesterday but was shrouded in secrecy, conducted as a private event. Prior remarks from industry leaders emphasized the necessity of a “miracle” to initiate this opening.

Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica confirmed that only members of the Government’s Information arm were present at the closed-door gathering. He expressed that the launch signals a positive shift in the business environment.

The multi-million dollar investment project, which took five years to complete, faced numerous challenges, including several Stop Order notices issued during the Bainimarama administration. Mr. Kamikamica highlighted that the project had been halted by the previous government until it was revived by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.

Laucala Island is known as a luxurious destination for elite travelers, generating approximately $3 million in foreign exchange for Fiji each month. COMO Laucala Island is recognized as one of the largest private resorts in the world and includes a dedicated lounge at Nadi International Airport.
