The much-anticipated opening of the COMO Laucala Island hangar at Nadi International Airport took place yesterday, but the event was shrouded in secrecy with a soft launch conducted behind closed doors. Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica confirmed that the launch was a private affair, attended only by members of the Government’s Information arm.
Mr. Kamikamica stated that the launch signifies a promising business environment. This multi-million dollar project took five years to complete, facing several challenges along the way, including multiple Stop Order notices imposed during the previous Bainimarama administration.
He credited Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka for allowing the project to move forward after it had been halted by the prior government.
Laucala Island, known for attracting wealthy tourists from around the globe, contributes approximately $3 million in foreign exchange to Fiji each month. The COMO Laucala Island is recognized as one of the world’s largest private retreats and features a dedicated lounge at Nadi International Airport.
