Traffic authorities are appealing to the public for help in identifying the victim of a tragic road accident that took place in the Southern Division in the early hours of the 1st of this month. The Director of Traffic, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, reported that the victim, a man believed to be in his late 20s, was discovered sleeping in the middle of Queens Road near Talenaua, Navua. He was struck by a vehicle driven by a 36-year-old man around 1 a.m.
Despite being rushed to Navua Hospital, the man sadly did not survive and was pronounced dead on arrival. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, but the man’s identity remains unknown. SSP Divuana described the victim as an i-taukei male and has released images of his clothing along with a distinctive tattoo on his left arm to aid in recognition.
The police are urging anyone with information to contact the Traffic Investigation Unit at 9905 633. As the investigation unfolds, they seek leads that could provide closure for this unfortunate event.
This incident highlights the importance of road safety and the collective effort required to ensure community awareness. It is hoped that through community cooperation, the identity of the victim can be uncovered, allowing his family to receive the closure they deserve.
