A much-anticipated event at Nadi International Airport turned out to be a private affair as the soft launch of COMO Laucala Island’s hangar took place behind closed doors. The launch followed previous discussions within the industry that referred to the project’s need for a “miracle” to reach this point.
Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica confirmed that the gathering was exclusive, allowing only for participation from the Government’s Information arm. He expressed optimism for the project, stating that it marks a positive shift in the business environment.
This multi-million dollar investment, which took five years to complete, faced numerous challenges along the way, including several Stop Order notices under the previous Bainimarama administration. Minister Kamikamica pointed out that the project was halted by the former Government until Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka permitted its continuation.
Laucala Island is known as a luxury destination for affluent visitors worldwide and contributes approximately $3 million in foreign exchange to Fiji each month. COMO Laucala Island is recognized as one of the largest private resorts globally, offering a private lounge facility at Nadi International Airport.
