Residents of Newtown, Cuvu, Nadroga, are in shock after the body of their neighbor, Ravnit Dass, was found floating in Cuvu River yesterday. Dass, 32, was a mechanic and well-known in the community. His body was discovered by two farmers working on nearby plantations.
Dass’s father, 66-year-old Rattan Kumar, recounted their last conversation on Monday night. “He came home around 7 PM, dropped off his tools, and mentioned he was going to a friend’s house,” Kumar said. Sadly, that was the final time he spoke to his son.
Nadroga Navosa Advisory Council chairman Subrail Narayan expressed his sorrow, describing Dass as a skilled mechanic who had even worked on his vehicle. “He was smart, hardworking, and had a good heart,” Narayan added.
Police were notified of the body at about midday. Police spokesperson Wame Bautolu stated that they identified the deceased and further investigation is underway. Funeral arrangements will be made following the post-mortem examination.
