Resource geologists are set to investigate intriguing discoveries reported from the Nalari cave in Korowaiwai at Nakorotubu, Ra. Local villagers from Nalidi have expressed their excitement over social media about the finding of various stones in the cave.

Located in the highlands along the border of Ra and Tailevu, Nalidi is steeped in cultural significance. Villager Inoke Turaga shared that the name Nalidi translates to “spark the world” in their dialect. He emphasized the historical importance of the cave, noting that stories of rare stones have been passed down through generations.

“Our prophets foretold that this precious stone would reveal itself in its anointed time, and that rivers of oil would be found underneath. Now, in God’s timing, this precious stone has been unveiled,” Turaga said. He reflected on the community’s belief that divine intervention has played a role in this discovery.

The acting director of the Mineral Resources Department, Apete Soro, confirmed that their geologists will visit the site to conduct a thorough assessment. “I will update you with details once our geologists provide their findings,” he stated.

The excitement among the Nalidi villagers reflects a deep cultural connection to their land and spiritual beliefs, and the upcoming exploration could uncover significant geological findings that may have both scientific and economic implications for the region.

This renewed interest in the Nalari cave serves not just as a potential resource for local communities but also highlights the importance of preserving local knowledge and traditions in geology. As explorations proceed, it is hoped that the findings will encourage sustainable practices that benefit both the environment and the local population.
