GOUNDAR Shipping Ltd. welcomed its newest vessel, the MV Captain Inoke, at Suva’s Mua-i-Walu jetty in a heartfelt ceremony attended by family and friends of the late Captain Inoke Ratotodro from Koro. Captain Ratotodro, who passed away in October 2024, was hailed as a father figure by Goundar Shipping’s founder, George Goundar. With deep emotion, Goundar expressed his sentiments, stating, “He’ll always be regarded as my dad,” reflecting on the profound impact Captain Ratotodro had on his life and the company.
The MV Captain Inoke is a double-hulled fast ferry that promises to enhance travel for Goundar Shipping passengers on the Levuka – Natovi – Nabouwalu – Ellington route. It was acquired from Korea, and under the command of Sainimere Qutonilaba, a dedicated captain who started as a cadet with Goundar Shipping in 2011, it represents the continued commitment to nurturing talent within the maritime community.
Melaia Ratotodro, Captain Inoke’s eldest daughter, shared her gratitude during the launch. She expressed the family’s pride in her father’s legacy, stating, “Our dad dedicated 30 years of his life to this company. We may miss him dearly, but we are grateful for what the company has done.”
The gathering also featured traditional ceremonies that honored Captain Inoke’s contributions and the rich maritime culture in Fiji. This event was not just a celebration of a new vessel; it was a poignant reminder of the enduring spirit of community and familial bonds, showcasing how legacies of hard work and dedication can inspire future generations.
In conclusion, the launch of MV Captain Inoke stands as both a tribute to a beloved figure and a beacon of hope for Goundar Shipping’s future, reflecting the values of perseverance and connection that Captain Ratotodro embodied throughout his life. This occasion not only celebrates the past but also looks forward to continued growth and strength within the maritime industry.
