The Tebara FANCA Nations Muslim World Cup Championship 2024 is set to kick off tomorrow at Churchill Park in Lautoka, featuring a competition among five nations: Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States. This biannual event, scheduled to run for five days, includes various categories, such as Under-17, Premier, Veterans, Masters, and Legends.
Javed Ahmed, the president of the Fiji Muslim Sports Association and national president for the Fiji FANCA team, expressed the challenges ahead in defending their title, after the Fiji FANCA Premier team secured victory in the previous tournament held in Nadi in 2022. Ahmed highlighted the strong caliber of players in their roster, including Zibraaz Sahib, William Valentine, and Nabil Begg, while acknowledging the fierce competition they will face from other nations.
In addition to the main tournament, the event will also showcase a netball competition for women, catering to a broad spectrum of sports within the Islamic community. Ahmed emphasized that all participating teams are set to compete not just for victory but also for pride and prestige within the FANCA framework.
