Motikiai Murray, a former student of Ratu Kadavulevu School and current open-side flanker for Fijian Drua, is looking forward to an exciting season ahead. The 21-year-old from Lovoni, Ovalau, has resumed light training following ankle surgery he underwent in Sydney, Australia, several months ago. He has family ties to Nukuni-i-cake in Ono I Lau.

Murray expressed that he is concentrating on his rehabilitation and has been preparing well for the upcoming seasons. Although he has not started running yet, he is hopeful about participating in field sessions soon.

He made his debut for the Drua in a Super Rugby Pacific quarterfinal against the Crusaders in June of last year. Under the mentorship of senior players, he is gaining valuable insights and aspires to make his debut for the Flying Fijians in the near future.

Growing up, Murray admired Flying Fijian flanker Levani Botia and aimed to emulate his style of play. He noted Botia’s strength in defense and breakdown situations as qualities he aspires to possess.

Murray expressed joy in playing alongside seasoned teammates, having previously watched them compete in rugby league, sevens, and for the Flying Fijians. His main aim is to maintain his fitness and perform his best during the season.

He is also patiently waiting for the right moment to wear the national jersey and mentioned that he would be willing to play in the number 8 position if given the chance. Over the last two seasons, Murray has participated in six matches for the Drua.
