Murray Sets Sights on a Comeback and National Glory

Motikiai Murray, a former student of Ratu Kadavulevu School and open-side flanker for the Fijian Drua, is looking forward to an exciting season next year. The 21-year-old from Lovoni, Ovalau, Lomaiviti, is gradually returning to his training regime after undergoing ankle surgery in Sydney, Australia, a few months ago. He has family ties to Nukuni-i-cake in Ono I Lau.

“I’m currently focused on my rehabilitation and preparing for the upcoming season,” he mentioned. “I haven’t started running yet, but I hope to join the field sessions soon.”

Murray made his debut for the Drua during their Super Rugby Pacific quarterfinal match against the Crusaders in June of the previous year. He is benefiting from the experience of senior players on the team and aspires to make his debut for the Flying Fijians soon.

Growing up, he drew inspiration from Flying Fijian flanker Levani Botia, whom he admired for his strength in defense and at the breakdown. “I loved watching Botia, and I hope to emulate his gameplay one day,” Murray said. “It’s exciting to play alongside the brothers. I used to watch them competing in rugby league, sevens, and for the Flying Fijians.”

Murray emphasized that his main priority now is to maintain his fitness and perform at his best during the season. He is patiently waiting for the opportunity to represent his country and mentioned that he would be willing to play at number 8 if given the chance. Over the last two seasons, he has participated in six matches for the Drua.
